NEW GLASGOW – Summer Street Industries executive director Bob Bennett said he is ecstatic with the result of this year’s annual golf scramble fundraiser.

In its 17th year, the Summer Street Golf Scramble raised a total of $185,910.

“We are happy with the results,” said Bennett. “Pictou County is very good to us.”

The event started off Friday morning at Abercrombie Golf Club with 170 golfers teeing off. It ended with a reception and awards at SSI in New Glasgow.

Sobeys Engineering Team beat out longtime top fundraisers CIBC Wood Gundy. The Sobeys Team raised $41,305 and CIBC raised $29,294. In the top team fundraisers, C.F. Construction raised $15,000, Fraser and Hoyt $11,965 and First Mutual Properties raised $11,000.

Joe Fiander was the top individual fundraiser, bringing in $26,378 for SSI.

Bennett said the money raised from the scramble goes to extra programming such as computer training.

He said the scramble committee, volunteers, staff and clients have put in long hours to make the event happen.

The scramble, in its 17th year, has raised a total of $1,515,381.07.
