NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — After nearly 10 years, a New Glasgow eatery will close its doors this month.
The West Side Bistro, which was started by Phillip and Darlene Castle in the fall of 2009, will shut down Aug. 29, Phillip Castle said.
“We’re retiring from the restaurant business,” said Castle, who was a chef in the Canadian military and later ran a restaurant for a decade, just outside the city of Guelph, Ont. He said it isn’t a financial-related decision, but a lifestyle choice.
“I’m going to relax. It’s just the two of us now. We’re still going to meet the people that we know and have met over the ten years. We enjoyed it for ten years, but you’ve got to pick a time in your life to do something else.”
He and his wife still plan on operating a catering business and will maintain a presence at the New Glasgow Farmer’s Market.
“The same clientele that come here for lunch or dinner also meet us at the farmers market,” he said.
“We have a good clientele there.”
