Two-hundred runners donned their ugliest holiday apparel at the fifth annual Ugly Sweater Run.

“This is the best one yet,” said 16-year-old Ethan MacDonald. This years was his third time running in the festive event which raises money for the Pictou County YMCA.

Ethan was among the first three to finish the run along with Luke MacDonald and Pictou County Athletics track coach, Tony Corbin.

Before the event people gathered in the Pictou County Wellness Centre’s lobby where they laced up their runners and sang Christmas carols.

“I’m just getting ready for my first marathon tomorrow,” said Paul Baillie. “This is just for fun.”

There were a lot of ugly sweater run veterans at the Wellness Centre this morning, and MacDonald isn’t alone in the sense that 2018 tops the rest.

“It was awesome,” said Geraldine Stewart who ran with her daughter Megan Russel and their dog Peter. “It was really nice and warm.”

Funds raised from the Ugly Sweater Run go towards the YMCA’s Financial Assistance program, youth programming, y-on the move and pop-up programs.
