MOUNT WILLIAM – It takes some work to pull a fire truck – just watch the people who do it.
More than $1,100 was raised when the United Way of Picotu County held its annual fire truck pull on Saturaday morning at the Pictou County Welnness Centre.
A total of 11 teams took part, with Michelin winning for the second year in a row, needing just 13.62 seconds to pull the rig 50 feet across the wellness centre parking lot. Finishing in second place was Pictou County RCMP (14.07 seconds).
“It’s a kick-off to our annual fundraising campaign,” said Jessica Smith, executive director of the local United Way, whose organization’s campaign will take place until the end of next January.
“We use the fire truck as an analogy of what happens when a community pulls together to make positive changes.”
The Most Spirited Team honours went to the second-year social services class from the Nova Scotia Community College campus in Stellarton.
The truck used was on loan from the Alma Fire Department.
