Two people face drug and weapons charges in Trenton

TRENTON, N.S. — The Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit has charged a man and a woman for drug and weapons offences following a traffic stop and search in Trenton on March 20.

During the course of an investigation, Pictou County SCEU, assisted by New Glasgow Regional Police, conducted a traffic stop on North Main St. When the driver was told he was under arrest, he put the vehicle in motion, threw an object out the window and fled for a short distance before bringing the vehicle to a stop, according to police.

The male driver and female passenger were arrested at the scene without further incident. A search of the area by New Glasgow Regional Police Dog Services recovered a bottle of hydromorphone pills.

Through a related search of a residence in Trenton, officers seized a firearm, brass knuckles, hydromorphone pills, and a quantity of cash.

George Andrew Barnett, 51-years-old from Trenton, is charged with:

· Possession of hydromorphones for the purpose of trafficking

· Resisting arrest

· Flight from police

· Careless use of a firearm

· Possession of prohibited weapon

· Possession of a firearm knowing serial number is altered

· Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

Jacqueline Joyce Chaisson, 45-years-old from Trenton, is charged with:

· Possession of hydromorphones for the purpose of trafficking

· Careless use of firearm

· Possession of prohibited weapon

· Possession of a firearm knowing serial number is altered

They are both scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court on April 23, at 9:30 a.m.
