The Jacksonville, Florida-based company, a leading provider of Internet services and online marketing solutions for small businesses, welcomed 70 people into its family, said

Kent Warren, vice president of client services.

He said the company, which has two other offices in the province – in Halifax and Yarmouth – chose to locate in New Glasgow because of its familiarity with Nova Scotia and support from the municipal government and other partners.

The company plans to release a few new products soon, which should boost sales, he said. “With sales, comes new customers and we need more people on board to service new customers.”

He said the new centre will deliver the best service possible to the company’s growing customer base.

Instead of expanding its current Nova Scotia offices, Warren said Web.com opted to open a new location where there was an “excited, enthusiastic group of employees who needed jobs” but was still close to the other offices.

“In other offices, it’s sometimes a challenge to hire as many people as we want, drawing from the same pool,” he said.

Executive vice president Vikas Risinghani said Team Nova Scotia just got bigger, with the 70 New Glasgow employees joining 400 other individuals at the other two locations, which have a 15-year history in the province.

He said the new office signals the company’s commitment to the community, the employees and their families. “That commitment follows our mission to help small business succeed. It’s our objective to help small businesses – help start businesses, develop their identity online, promote businesses, run businesses – help with our technology and expertise.”

Through a video message, David Brown, CEO of the Web.com Group of companies, said he’s delighted to celebrate the opening of the New Glasgow office. “We’ve found our Canadian operation has become a strategic asset in how Web.com differentiates itself in the marketplace. The quality of care that our Canadian employees bring each and every day, their loyalty and commitment to our customers is really what sets us apart.”

Mayor Barrie MacMillan said the town is thrilled to be the location of Web.com’s newest operations centre. “Today is a day that we have looked forward to with much anticipation, excitement and appreciation,” he said.

“Web.com is a business that is a most fitting complement for the entrepreneurial history, talents and work ethic of New Glasgow and Pictou County. It is a visionary company with an impressive and progressive commitment to its customers, its employees and its communities. We are grateful for the investment by Web.Com Canada, from NSBI and by the Province of Nova Scotia.”

Web.com Group, Inc. provides a range of Internet services to small businesses, including domains, hosting, website design and management, search engine optimization, online marketing campaigns, local sales leads, social media, mobile products and eCommerce solutions.
