Roger MacKay, a lifelong resident of Central Nova, and the Mayor of Westville has officially declared his intention to run for the Conservative Party of Canada nomination in Central Nova for the upcoming federal election.
"Having been involved with the Westville Town Council since 1994, and having served as mayor since 2008, has given me a strong understanding of the needs of the community,” MacKay said. “The challenges rural communities face when it comes to infrastructure, government red tape, and the struggling local economy is making it harder and harder for our rural communities to survive."
MacKay has identified issues he would bring to the forefront in Ottawa. "I want to ensure our young people have an opportunity to live, work, and someday raise their family in Central Nova. Taxes are too high, finding a good paying job is too difficult, and our current federal government isn't making life easier for taxpayers."
MacKay lives in Westville with his wife, Jessie. They are the parents of two grown sons, Brandon and Zachary. He has been employed by the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation for more than 38 years. MacKay relaxes by playing pickup hockey two nights per week and has served his community as a volunteer firefighter in Westville for 18 years.
"We have a responsibility to future generations to be fiscally prudent, to live within our means, and make it easier for our economy to grow. I want Central Nova to not only survive but thrive." MacKay said
