YMCA Peace Medal Breakfast and Peace Week events

PICTOU, N.S. —

The YMCA Peace Medal Breakfast filled Wellness Centre conference rooms on the morning of Nov. 18 as community members were recognized for their dedication in helping Pictou County thrive.

At this year’s breakfast were Jessica Stewart and Raven Eldstrom took home the Youth Award for starting Karma Closet at Northumberland Regional High School.

Karma Closet is a free and anonymous program designed to support students by providing food, hygiene, clean laundry and school supplies to youth and their families.

This year’s Individual Award winner was Dr. Brad MacDougall. MacDougall was recognized for his tireless advocacy for inclusive participation in physical activity in the community.

Autism Pictou County was awarded the 2019 Group Award, for its work in spreading awareness, building support networks and breaking down silos between other organizations that work toward the same goals.

YMCA Peace Week started on the weekend with scheduled swims at 3 p.m., and will continue until Nov. 23 with the following free events.

Cycle Fit 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 20

Chair Yoga 11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Aqua Fitness 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

T Talk: Healing the body through stress management with Nissa (must register) 6 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 21

Tai Chi 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Mindfulness Meditation 12 pm. To 12:30 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 22

Y on the Move Hike 10 a.m.

Saturday, Nov. 23

Peace Swim 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
