NEW GLASGOW, N.S.
Visitors were given a tour of the new digital X-ray room at Aberdeen Hospital on Nov. 22.
“Planning actually started back in March and most of the construction happened in July, and there were a few other renovations we had to do after that,” said David Quann, regional director of diagnostic imaging.
“The new digital X-ray equipment will be a significant addition to our department.”
About a dozen members of the hospital’s X-ray department were on hand for the brief gathering. Among those who were present was Betty Springer, whose daughter Jennifer started working at the hospital in 2016, before passing away from cancer earlier this year. A framed photograph will be hung in the new X-ray room in honour of Jennifer Springer.
The upgrades came with a price tag of just over $500,000 and the project was fully funded by the Aberdeen Health Foundation.
“It allows us to use less radiation dose for each patient – the digital technology is able to pick up radiation quicker than the old technology we had.”
A larger room also gives technologists more space to do their work.
