PICTOU LANDING, N.S. — Construction work on the new school for Pictou Landing First Nation is on-track for completion by September 2019 according to a recent release from DORA Construction Ltd.
It’s early stages yet, and the early onset of winter weather in November was a challenge, but the concrete foundations for the South end of the building are currently underway. Foundation work is expected to continue through the month of January.
The school, which will house approximately 90 students from pre-school through to grade 8, is being built on the old ball field. The building will also include a day-care and an area that will be able to host community events.
Funding for the new school is coming from Pictou Landing First Nation; Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey, and the community is sourcing other partners.
It is expected to be complete for the 2019/2020 academic year.
