The Pictou County Fuel Fund which provides oil, wood, wood pellets or propane to families in need of heating assistance during the cold winter months has been keeping pace with the high demand this season.
An unusually cold November started the winter off early with 89 separate applications in that month alone.
“We had an early cold snap, so that that got us quite worried that that was going to be our winter’s trend,” said Jim McKenna. “We’re certainly grateful for our donations that’s allowed us to serve our numbers.”
Since November the fuel fund has helped 162 Pictou County households keep the heat on.
