Since November 2005, the Karen Lynn MacDonald Allergy Awareness Society has been raising the importance of recognizing, preventing and raising funds to aid those who are affected with anaphylactic allergies.
This Halloween, the society is encouraging people to support the Teal Pumpkin Project, which aims to make the holiday safer for children with allergies.
People are encouraged to provide non-food treats for trick-or-treaters such as stickers, glow sticks or playing cards. To signify that they have this available they are asked to paint a pumpkin teal, and display it outside or display a teal pumpkin poster in their window.
The Karen Lynn MacDonald Allergy Awareness Society is a non for profit group providing support and awareness about allergies and anaphylaxis to those in Pictou, Antigonish and Guysborough counties.
They host monthly variety concerts at the Lismore Community Centre, 7:30 p.m., the last Friday of every month, except December. The events help raise funds to provide Epi-Pens to those who are financially unable to purchase their own.
