During October, the RCMP responded to a total of 503 occurrences. During the month, RCMP also issued 69 violation tickets, 49 written warnings and were involved in 24 community policing activities.
Investigations of note include the following:
Impaired collision
On Sept. 3, RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 104 in Pictou County. Investigation at the scene resulted in the 33-year-old male driver from Truro being arrested for impaired operation of a conveyance and operating a conveyance with a blood alcohol percentage over. 08. He will appear in Pictou court on Nov. 25.
Discharging a firearm
On Oct. 5, RCMP received a report of a man discharging a firearm in Pictou. Police attended and investigation at the scene showed the man was shooting seagulls near a wharf. The 42-year-old New Glasgow man was charged with causing animals or birds unnecessary suffering. He will appear in Pictou Court on Dec. 9.
Impaired ATV collision
On Oct. 6, RCMP received a complaint of an ATV collision in Toney River. The 54-year-old male driver of the ATV was injured and was taken to hospital. Investigation showed the male was intoxicated. Blood samples were obtained to determine the amount of alcohol in his blood. This investigation is ongoing and charges have not yet been laid.
Stolen vehicle
On Oct. 6 at approximately 7:30 a.m., RCMP received a report of a vehicle which had been stolen from River John. The 29-year-old Colchester County male who had stolen the car was identified and turned himself into police. The car was recovered and the male was charged with theft of a motor vehicle. He will appear in Pictou Court on Nov. 4.
Impaired collision
On Oct. 7, RCMP received a complaint of a single vehicle collision on Marsh Road in Coalburn. Investigation revealed the 43-year-old male driver from Thorburn was arrested and faces charges of impaired operation of a conveyance and operating a conveyance with a blood alcohol percentage over .08. He will appear in Pictou Court on Dec. 16.
Assault/threats
On Oct. 9, RCMP were called about a fight involving a group of people in a parking lot in Pictou. The complainant advised that someone in the fight had threatened to stab another person. Investigation at the scene resulted in a 24-year-old New Glasgow man being arrested. He faces charges of assault and uttering threats and will appear in Pictou Court on Dec. 16.
Impaired collision
On Oct. 12, RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision which occurred in Meadowville. Investigation at the scene showed that the 34-year-old male driver from Scotsburn was impaired by both alcohol and cannabis. He was arrested and faces charges of Impaired operation of a conveyance and operating a conveyance with a blood alcohol percentage over .08. He will appear in Pictou Court on Dec. 23.
Impaired by drug
On Oct. 12, RCMP received a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Westville Road. Police located the vehicle and investigation showed the 29-year-old female driver was impaired by cannabis. She was arrested and charged with operating a conveyance while impaired by drugs. She will appear in Pictou Court on Nov. 25.
Cottage break and enters
Throughout the month of October, RCMP responded to numerous break and enters to unoccupied camps and cottages in rural Pictou County. Several items have been stolen from these cottages, including firearms. Police are reminding all cottage owners to ensure their cottages are locked and also asking cottage owners to consider additional forms of security on unoccupied cottages, such as trail cameras or additional lighting/alarms.
Break in to Pictou Landing RCMP building
On Oct. 16, the the unoccupied RCMP building in Pictou Landing was broken into by a 23-year-old male from Pictou Landing. Minor damage to the inside of the building occurred. The male responsible for the break in was identified and arrested for mischief and break and enter. Charges have not been laid at this time and this investigation is ongoing.
Stolen vehicle
On Oct. 23, RCMP responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle from a residence in Seafoam. A grey 2015 Mazda 3, bearing Nova Scotia licence FNH117 was stolen. This vehicle has not yet been recovered and police are asking anyone with any information to please contact police or Crimestoppers.
Indecent exposure
On Oct. 29, RCMP responded to a complaint of a customer in a Pictou business exposing himself to a female customer inside the business. Police attended and located the male. The 31-year-old Pictou man was arrested and faces charges of committing an indecent act and failing to comply with an undertaking.He was held in custody and will next appear in Pictou Court on Nov. 25.
