PICTOU, N.S.

The Pictou West Health Centre is getting a new home on the Pictou rotary.

The Nova Scotia Health Authority confirmed it is moving forward with the development of new space for the centre which is currently located in the Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital in Pictou.

Kristen Lipscombe, a communications advisor for the Nova Scotia Health Authority, said through a request for proposal process, a vendor was chosen to create new space for the existing collaborative practice team that will meet current practice standards and provide appropriate space to meet best practice and accreditation standards for primary care.

“Planning and design of the new space will include input from multiple partners, including members of the collaborative family practice team,” she stated in response to questions from The News.

The new space will be new constructed in the Town of Pictou on a site by the town’s roundabout and is expected to be completed later this year.

The Pictou West Health Centre is one of four collaborative practices in Pictou County. The collaborative family practice team includes two family physicians, three nurse practitioners, two family practice nurses, a dietitian, a pharmacist, and administrative assistants working together to provide comprehensive care for patients.

“Once the facility is built, and the collaborative family practice team relocates to the new space, existing patients of the practice will continue to receive care from the team,” Lipscombe said.
