MERIGOMISH, N.S. — Police confirm that they were searching for human remains in the rural community of Merigomish.

"Pictou District RCMP and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service have conducted an extensive investigation into a complaint of a discovery of human remains in Merigomish," said Cpl. Jennifer Clarke in a statement. "This included excavation of the area where the remains were alleged to have been seen."

The RCMP command post which had been set up on a dirt road near the community's post office had raised a lot of questions among the neighbors and passersby.

However, on July 17 the investigation was finished.

"The investigation into this matter is now concluded and no human remains were found at the site," said Clarke.
