A body was discovered in Sandy Cove in Digby County on Sunday morning.
The RCMP said the body was found on the cove beach at about 9 a.m.
The RCMP is working with the medical examiner’s office to identify the remains and the circumstances that led to the death.
Asked whether the death could be related to hurricane Dorian, an RCMP spokeswoman said the situation is being investigated in its entirety.
"The first thing is to have the ME (medical examiner) do the identification and find out what we can about how the death occurred," said Cpl. Jennifer Clarke in an email. "We need to have family identified and then proceed from there."
