ANTIGONISH, N.S. — Godzilla made an appearance at the Eastern Nova Scotia Exhibition (ENSE) in Antigonish.
No, not the fictional character commonly dubbed as ‘King of the Monsters,’ but the sheep Casey King of the West River club teamed up with for competition during the annual 4-H Day.
“I love the friendly competition,” Casey said, when asked about what he enjoyed about being part of the movement.
The four-year 4-H member said “to get ready for the judges,” he bathed and groomed Godzilla, including fluffing his woolly black-and-white coat.
Godzilla didn’t corner the market on interesting and fun animal names; there was also Blooper, who paired with Danny Hunter in the junior waterfowl competition.
“I love showing,” the nine-year-old, first-year member of the St. Andrews club said of his experience.
As for what he likes about 4-H, he added, “pretty much everything.”
A phrase that captured the theme of the traditional centerpiece of the opening day of the ENSE – ‘learn to do by doing’ – emblazoned 4-H T-shirts donned by several members.
That phrase was on full display throughout the festivities.
4-H clubs from Antigonish and Guysborough counties, including Goshen, Heatherton, Landing, Lower South River, St. Andrews, St. Josephs, Tracadie and West River, participated in a variety of competitions.
Along with animal competitions, the popular parade and crowning of the Miss and Master, once again, highlighted an action-packed – and entertaining – ENSE 4-H Day.
