Two local business owners were recently recognized by the Pictou County Municipal Alcohol Project Working Group for the shuttle services they provide to customers.
Both Fat Tony's and the Highlander Beverage Room in Pictou offer pick-up and drop-off shuttle service to customers on weekends. Arrangements can be made by contacting either establishment.
Pictou County MAP has recognized both businesses as Positive Community Action Champion.
The plaque reads:
"You may be aware that all six Pictou County municipalities, Pictou Landing First Nations and a number of community partners have come together in an effort to reduce alcohol-related harms that impact the well-being of our citizens and our communities.  Our group have been making in-way to shift the ever-present culture of alcohol through community engagement, especially around our youth, our schools, health and police services.
Just two of our numerous activities have included: a safe transportation initiative introduced in 2015 for the Pictou Lobster Carnival and Riverfront Jubilee and the Bridging the Gap: Intergenerational Forum held in 2016.  We're eager to continue working together with even more community partners who wish to lessen the burden of alcohol-related harms in Nova Scotia.  To do this, we hope to start shifting our culture from one of binge drinking to one of moderation, not prohibition.
The working group commended Fat Tony's Bar and Grill and the Highlander Beverage Room for introducing Safe Drive Home initiatives as a service to your customers.
