Planning for the future and finding the right pathway

On May 14, Summer Street and the Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education hosted an information session for families and individuals looking at post high school options for supportive educational and employment opportunities available in our community.
“We are pleased to host this event with the CCRCE because we believe that helping families and individuals know about the programs and services available to them is important,” said Bob Bennett, executive director for Summer Street Industries.
Christine Williams, student services consultant with CCRCE said that as a Regional Education Center staff at CCRCE value the direct impact community partners have in supporting students. “Working collaboratively with agencies and non-profits in our region only strengthens our ability to create an inclusive community,” she said. “We are so happy to have been invited again by Summer Street to participate in this event.”
About 50 people attended the dinner and event that included presentations and the opportunity to have one-on-one conversations with representatives from Department of Community Services, NSCC ACHIEVE Program, Neil Squire Society, N.S. Works, Riverview Home Corporation, WDC Disability Tax Specialists and Summer Street.
“Seeing families, community organizations and educational bodies come together to equip young adults with information so they may make informed decisions about their future, was amazing. We are very fortunate to live in a community with so many options, supports and services.  We were delighted to be a part of this event and look forward to continued partnerships and collaborations.” said Shannon Travers NSCC ACHIEVE program coordinator.
Summer Street indicated their willingness to continue to offer free information sessions moving forward.  
“People need one place to get the information they need to navigate what is sometimes a complicated system” said Dorothy Doyle, director of services at Summer Street.
