Animal lovers, golf enthusiasits and people who just love auctions ought to mark August 25 on their calendar because that's the day of the 8th annual Kathy Skoke-Fortin Memorial Golf Tournament.
All the proceeds for the event go to the Pictou County SPCA, and coordinator Vince Angst is aiming to make this year's tournament the biggest one yet.
Over the years the event has raised approximately $27,000 for the shelter, and this year Angst says that they're aiming to exceed the $7,000 brought in last year.
All that money goes toward the Pictou County SPCA shelter, says Angst. It's money that shelter workers say that they can always use.
"We need a lot of updates for the shelter," said Brittany Weeb, a student at NSCC in her second summer position at the shelter. "Food and stuff like that is always expensive, and vet fees. Especially when we've got sick cats, it usually takes a toll."
Both Weeb and Danielle O'brien, who is in her first year at the shelter, were joined on June 27 by Angst. This is the seventh year that Angst has coordianted the gold tournament and auction.
"An this is the third year I believe that it's been named after Kathy," said Angst. "She took in adopted animals and was just an animal lover and a beautiful person."
The event will take place at the Glen Lovat Golf Course. Anyone wishing to register or who wish to donate to the auction can contact 902-754-2433 or 902-396-3595. People can also email [email protected] with a deadline of August 19.
