Jarred Campbell of the Stellarton Fire Department and town employee Vince Conway worked to put out a small fire near the train tracks in the Brown Row area on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters said it was one of several small blazes along the track that were ignited at approximately the same time, likely caused by sparks coming from a passing train. One first responder said the extremely dry conditions this early in Pictou County is a concern for firefighters.
