NEW GLASGOW, N.S.
The 18-year-old driver of a car that was involved in a collision on East River Road on Monday evening, Jan. 21 has been charged for leaving the scene and for driving a vehicle that was uninsured and unregistered.
New Glasgow Regional Police were called to the two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Park Street and East River Road in New Glasgow at approximately 7:05 p.m. Jan. 21.
According to police, the 18-year-old was driving a 2006 Saturn southbound on East River Road making a left turn on to Park Street. The second vehicle, a 2008 Mazda vehicle, driven by a 26-year-old woman with two children and another passenger, was travelling northbound on East River Road. The collision took place at the intersection of Park Street and East River Road when both vehicles collided.
The driver of the 2008 Mazda vehicle was taken to Aberdeen Hospital by Emergency Health Services for non life threatening injuries. The three other passengers in the 2008 Mazda vehicle were not injured.
The driver of the 2006 Saturn vehicle fled the scene and was immediately located and arrested by New Glasgow Regional Police on Stewart Street, New Glasgow.
The 18-year-old later released under conditions and will appear in Provincial Court in Pictou at a later date.
The 2008 Mazda vehicle suffered substantial damage and had to be towed from the scene. The 2006 Saturn vehicle sustained minor damage.
New Glasgow Regional Police continue to investigate.
