SYDNEY, N.S. — Two men have been remanded pending the outcome of bail hearings after being charged with weapon and assault offences.
Charged are Kevin Thomas Forrest, 23, of Crescent Street, Sydney Mines and Joshua Ryan Burns, 26, of Charlotte Street, Sydney.
Forrest is charged with assault with a weapon (a handgun), carrying a weapon dangerous to public peace, uttering a threat and five counts of breaching court orders – failing to behave, associating with those with a criminal record, failing to abide by a curfew, failing to comply and possessing a weapon.
After a brief court appearance Monday, Forrest was remanded pending a bail hearing Wednesday.
Burns is charged with assault with a weapon (a .22-calibre rifle), pointing a firearm, carrying a weapon dangerous to public peace, uttering a threat, assault and nine counts of breaching court orders including failing to behave, possession of a weapon, failing to abide by a curfew and possession of a weapon.
After a court appearance Monday, Burns consented to a further remand until Nov. 5. He is also facing three unrelated breach offences that are alleged to have occurred Aug. 3 in Sydney.
The assault and weapon offences are alleged to have occurred at a residence in Sydney on Oct. 19 during which the two accused are alleged to have assaulted two adult residents of the home.
