LINACY, N.S. — LINACY, N.S. – A 23-year-old Thorburn man has been charged with aggravated assault against a 17-year-old from Linacy.
On Jan. 28, Pictou District RCMP responded to a complaint of a serious assault which occurred inside a home on Merigomish Road in Linacy. A 17-year old male was found inside the home and had sustained serious head and facial injuries. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The suspect, 23-year-old James Kirk Sim of Thorburn was later arrested and has been charged with aggravated assault, uttering threats and assault. Sim is scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court on April 8. The victim remained in hospital in Halifax with serious injuries.
RCMP Cpl. Ron Bryce said the victim and the accused knew each other, but it’s unknown how well.
“We haven't been able to interview the victim yet due to his medical condiation, so we can't say exactly how well they know each other,” he said.
The accused turned himself into police, Bryce said and was arrested at that time.
“The assault occurred due to a dispute between the youth and the accused,” Bryce said. “The extent of the dispute is not known (again due to the fact that we haven't been able to interview the victim yet).”
The investigation continues.
