“I feel like a whole new person,” says Deborah Feit, as she sits at a table in the community room, upstairs at the Sobeys store at Aberdeen Business Centre.

Last summer, the Thorburn resident started participating in the free Sobeys Walking Program. “I’ve lost 31 pounds since last July, due to the physical activity and through learning nutritional facts,” Feit says.

The program broke for the winter months, but started up again earlier this month and is expected to carry unto the fall.

“Now I’m addicted to the walk,” Feit adds, “If I miss it, I’ll be upset.”

The walks are held twice a week, from 10:30 a.m. until noon (every Thursday at the east side Sobeys, and Mondays at the west-side New Glasgow store). They walk the nearby trails for about 45 minutes and they then head back to the store to talk about and nutrition healthy eating.

“Everybody walks at their own pace, and at their own physical activity levels,” says Sobeys dietician Teresa Flynn, who started the walking program last summer and walks with the group, open to answering any questions they have about diet and nutrition.

“It’s a good support network, walking with people who you can help them achieve their health goals.”

Anyone who has questions or is interested in attending, contact Teresa at 902-755-3645 or e-mail her at: [email protected].
