Carl Levo
Carl Richard Levo (born 4 July 1935) of Green Hill passed away peacefully at home on Feb 16, 2018, less than a kilometre from where he was born 82 years ago. He graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in the Class of ’56 who became a lifelong group of friends. Carl met Dorothy at Folk School in Collingwood, NS. Following their marriage, they farmed in Green Hill, next door to where Carl was born. Carl was self-employed as a carpenter/contractor until he was hired as a carpenter at Michelin. With Dorothy, they built Levo’s Garden business, specializing in rhododendrons and the Raspberry U-Pick. Carl was also community minded. At Green Hill-Alma United Church, he was an elder, the Clerk of Session and a Presbytery Rep. In the community, he was on the Board of the Credit Union, and member and past president of the Pictou County PC party. Carl loved gardening and as such, he was a member and Chair of Nova Scotia Association of Garden Clubs, a life member of the Atlantic Rhododendron and Horticultural Society, he belonged to New Glasgow Horticultural Society, and the Westville and Area Garden Club. In addition to gardening, he loved singing and belonged to the Green Hill-Alma church choir and the Trinitarians. During his travelling years, he was an avid photographer, a gift he has shared with his daughters. Carl is survived by his daughters, Anne Levo Harrop, Nancy Levo and Wendy Levo; son-in-law Michael Harrop; grandson Andrew Levo Harrop; and Nancy’s partner, John Robinson. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy. Carl was blessed to be able to remain in his own home until the very end. Many thanks to the VON who attended to him, especially those, who in addition to their assigned tasks, sang to him or in other ways made him laugh and smile. Visitation will be held at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm on Tuesday, 20 February 2018.
