THORBURN – Harold Earl MacDonald, 93, Thorburn, passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 21, 2018 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Thorburn, he was a son of the late George Earl and Katherine Theresa (Boutlier) MacDonald. Harold was a member of The Church of the Holy Name, Westville and the former, St. Ann’s Parish, Thorburn. He served with the Royal Canadian Airforce in Canada during the Second World War. Harold retired from Michelin Tire, Granton in 1989 having previously been employed with the former McBain coalmine Thorburn and Maritime Steel, New Glasgow. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching “his” Blue Jays on TV. Harold was very active for many years with the Thorburn and District War Veteran’s Association and Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, June, to British Columbia, Hawaii and Florida. For Harold, “life has only changed, not ended”. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, June (Hingley); daughter, Laurie (Ken) Reid, West River; sons, Barry (Dave), Vancouver, B.C.; David (Kathy), Surry, B.C.; George, Thorburn; Henry, Wasaga Beach, Ont.; grandchildren, Shannon, Troy, Christopher, Leah, Shaun and Liam; nieces, Linda, Teri and Doris; nephews, Bill, Karl, Paul and Gary. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Virginia and Kathleen; brother, Earl in infancy; niece, Karen; brother-in-law, Bill. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in The Church of the Holy Name, Westville with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. Interment will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Thorburn. Donations may be made in Harold’s memory to Aberdeen Palliative Care Society. www.pkmacdonald.ca
