HOOD, James Daniel ‘Dannie’ It is with sadness we announce the passing of James Daniel ‘Dannie’ Hood, age 81, of Amherst, NS. Dannie passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. Born October 19, 1937 in New Glasgow, NS, he was a son of the late Daniel and Jennie (Campbell) Hood. Dannie began his career in labour relations simply working as a carpenter, soon to become their union representative. He moved on with a short term in the loan management field only to come back to the labour field as a negotiator with the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union, sometimes negotiating contracts against his wife in management. Dannie worked with NSGEU for a number of years. Dannie was a man of trust, dignity and commitment, shown by his being able to move from labour to management. He ended his career as Chief Negotiator with the Nova Scotia Department of Labour, retiring in 1998. Dannie was a great golfer, starting at a very young age, and was a member at the Amherst Golf Club. He was inducted into the Pictou County Sports Hall of Fame for his participation in hockey in the 1950's. Dannie was an active volunteer with the local Food Bank. He and his wife spent 12 winters at their winter home in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. He loved music and was a member of the Trailblazers men's choir at Trails End Community in Weslaco, Texas. Following retirement, Dannie worked with junior golfers, the local food bank and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul. He was a 4th degree knight, a man of faith and had an easy way of being on earth. He supported children overseas with Chalice. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Barbara Hood of Amherst; sisters, Diana Rauh, New Glasgow, NS and Mary Elizabeth Sutherland, Dartmouth, NS; niece, Lisa Keeping (Doug Brown), Waterloo, ON. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours were held. Funeral Mass was celebrated at the Holy Family Parish Church on, Satuday, August 31, 2019 at 11 a.m., Father Craig Christenson officiating. Those wishing to make a donation in Dannie's memory may do so to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Lung Association, or the charity of your choice.
