Halifax / Pictou - It is with deep sadness, the friends and family of Kathleen Mary Smith announce her passing on July 20th, 2019. She was born in Pictou, a daughter of the late Harold and Donna (Babineau) Smith. After high school, Kathleen trained in financing and was a secretary/receptionist in the Administration Department for the Nova Scotia Trust (Central Trust) for 36 years until her retirement. She was a volunteer for the QE11 Health Services and a member of the Halifax Curling Club and Ashburn Golf Club for many years. She was also an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Purcell’s Cove Road, Halifax. Kathleen is survived by her life-long partner, Leslie of 62 years. She was predeceased by her father, Harold Smith, who was the Register of Deeds for Pictou County; mother, Donna (Madonna Babineau); sister, Dr. Marjorie-Ann Smith, of P.E.I. and her aunt, Dr. Marjorie L. Smith of Halifax, formerly of Pictou. She is also survived by her uncle, Mark Babineau (Hockey Hall of Famer), of Pictou; and by her aunt, Ruth (Smith) Ryan and many cousins in Pictou and Halifax. Special thanks to Robert and Patsy Landry for their continued support and to all of the caring nurses and blue team members on 8.2 Halifax Infirmary. Arrangements have been entrusted to McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will take place 11 AM Wednesday from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery.
