Lawson Delmar Cook, age 82, of Pleasant Valley, Pictou County, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019 in the Q.E. II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, following post operative complications with his family by his side. Born in The Falls, Colchester County, on Oct. 6, 1936, he was a son of the late Lewis and Elsie (MacDonald) Cook. After moving around as a young boy, his family settled in “The City” of Kemptown where he graduated from “Kemptown Academy”. As a young man he had worked for various construction companies before opening his own business starting with one bulldozer in 1968. He grew his company, Maritime Tractor Repairs, to be well known throughout the area where he was working right up to the day before surgery. He was an active member of St. Lukes United Church and also a member of the U.T.C. Lawson was always concerned and contributing to his community. Although Lawson was a strong, rugged person, he was also a very kind and gentle man. Married for 57 years, Lawson will be dearly missed by his wife Sharon (Stewart); sons and daughters, Michael (Kate), Ont.; Ricky (Lisa), Green Hill; Janet, Westville; Lisa (Steve), Ont,; Randy (Dawn), Westville; and was proud Papa to Ryan, Shawn, Chalane, Nickolas; Rhiannon, Morgan, Devin, Cameron, Avery, Ronin, and Ally; and great-grandchildren Skye and Shawn. He is also survived by brothers, Charles (Rita), Baddeck; James (Blanche), Truro; and Kenneth (Karen), Kingston; sister-in-law Peggy Cook , Ont.; several brothers-in law and sisters-in-law and their spouses as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Raymond, Chester, and Foster; and sisters, Gladys Fraser (Rod), Myrtle Ryalls (George), and Isabel Lochead (Donald). Lawson is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. His funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Monday at St. Luke’s United Church, Salt Springs with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Interment will be in The Falls Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to the St. Luke’s United Church, the Q.E.
