GILLIS, Lorne Christopher Ira Lorne Christopher Ira Gillis, 27, Lorne, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2019. Well known as ‘Chris the Gillis’, he was born in New Glasgow, a son of Laurie Jean (MacLean) Stewart and Weldon Miles Gillis. Chris was employed as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic with MacCullochs Truck Services for the past seven years. Having completed the Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic program at NSCC Pictou Campus in 2012 and receiving his Red Seal designation in 2016. Chris lived life to the fullest, doing everything “wide open”. He enjoyed the outdoors, dirt biking, four-wheeling and working on mud trucks–the more he was covered in grease and dirt – the happier he was! Chris possessed an easing going, fun loving, uplifting personality and always left a positive impression. He enjoyed spending time with Telly, Marco, Dixie and Yoda. Chris was a beautiful, genuine, big hearted person who will be dearly missed. Surviving are his mother, Laurie (Phillip) Stewart, Thorburn; father, Weldon (Linda) Gillis, Stellarton; siblings, Bradley (Alisha) Gillis, North Kentville; P.J. (Brittany) Stewart, Stellarton; Leeland (Victoria) Campbell, New Glasgow; Melissa Campbell and son, Jayden, Glencoe, Cape Breton; Matthew (Nena) Campbell, and son, Sasha, Edmonton, Alta.; James (Cindy) Campbell and daughter, Faith, Slave Lake, Alta.; grandparents, Phillip Stewart Sr., Riverton; Ralph and Marjorie MacDonald, Port Hood; aunts and uncles, Heather (Brian) Campbell and Marlene MacLean, Stellarton; Beth (Geoff) Skerrett, Houston, Texas; Judy Graham, River John; Ken (Peggy) Gillis, New Glasgow; Susan MacIntosh, Westville; Sherry-Lynne (David) George, Valley; Michael MacDonald, Port Hood; Carolyn MacIsaac, Whycocomagh; Richard (Tammy) MacDonald, Sarnia, Ont.; Jennifer (Bud) MacDonald, Judique; numerous cousins and friends. He was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Ira and Marjorie MacLean, and Marjorie Stewart; paternal grandparents, Miles and Marie Gillis. A Celebration of Christopher’s life will be held on Friday, November 15, in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 28, Stellarton where family will receive visitors from 3-5 p.m., with Words of Comfort by Rev. Donna Tourneur at 5 p.m., followed by “cheers to Chris”. Donations may be made in memory of Chris to the Pictou County SPCA or Aberdeen Health Foundation Sandbar Mental Health Endowment. www.pkmacdonald.ca
