Marion Catherine Heighton

Marion Catherine Heighton
HEIGHTON, Marion Catherine After a long illness, Marion Catherine Heighton died peacefully at the age of 86 on September 22, 2019 at the Maritime Oddfellows Home in Pictou, Nova Scotia. She was preceded by her parents, Howard and Dorothy (Livingstone) Ross; her husband, Dan Heighton, and her sisters, June Munroe, Vivian Tucker and May Weir. She was a wonderful mother to Jo-Anne (Gregor MacLeod), Danny (Netty), Paul (Nancy), Alan (Jylene) and Michael (Catherine), and she was the world’s greatest Baba to eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Marion was a person of tremendous integrity and fierce determination. After recovering from a serious bout of tuberculosis in her youth, she never took her health for granted. She had a lifelong interest in nutrition and exercise that did not waver—she could be found walking the loop every day, rain or shine. Her commitment to wellness was truly an inspiration. After a 25-year career at the New Glasgow Evening News, Marion genuinely enjoyed retirement. Always young at heart, Marion had a great sense of fun and saw the best in everything. She was an active volunteer who proudly served the community of Pictou County, which she loved. She also enjoyed yoga, British comedies, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. In recent years, she developed an interest in poetry and pop music—and would often surprise her grandchildren with her knowledge of the songs on the radio. Most of all, Marion was kind. Her warmth was contagious, and she made friends wherever she went. She always had time, hugs, and tea. Marion left us on a beautiful, sunny day, which seems appropriate since she brought sunshine into so many lives. Visitation will take place on Friday, September 27, 2019 from 7 - 9 p.m. at HW Angus Funeral Home, 256 King St., New Glasgow. Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, September 28 at 1 p.m. at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 390 High St., New Glasgow. A reception will follow at the Saint John the Baptist Church Hall. Christian burial will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, North Foord Street, Stellarton. The family would like to pass on a special thank you to the staff of the Maritime Oddfellows Home for the loving care they provided to our mom these last few years. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
