Michael Edwin Goble

New Glasgow - Michael Edwin Goble, age 90, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 20, 2019. Born in Harrow, England, he was a son of the late Sydney and Delia (Lee) Goble. Michael was born and raised near London, England. He attended the Old Merchant Taylor School followed by the Royal Naval College. He graduated Lieutenant Commander, Professional Mechanical Engineer. Mike served a large part of his naval career as a submariner. In October 1956 while in port in Halifax, he met Betty. They would marry the following spring and spend the next 61 years together. After retiring from the Navy, Mike began his second career with Michelin, returning to Nova Scotia as one of the first employees. Mike was recognized for his long-term service to the Gyro Club of New Glasgow and the Royal Canadian Naval Association, Admiral Murray Branch. Mike and Betty enjoyed many winter trips to Hutchinson Island, Florida and summer at the cottage on Sinclair Island where family and friends gathered. He is survived by a sister Ruth; daughter, Susan; son, Edwin; grandchildren, Ryan, Lindsay and Taylor. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty; brothers, Mark and David. Visitation was held Feb. 25, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral Service was held Feb. 26, in Saint Georges Anglican Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Falen McNulty officiating.
