Trenton - Neil Lawrence MacEachern, age 93, of the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit, Pictou, formerly of Trenton, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018, in the Unit. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Hugh and Sophie (MacKay) MacEachern. He worked for United Van Lines and was retired from Pictou County Transit. He served in the Canadian Army during WWII, in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean and Continental Europe. He was part of the Canadian Forces who liberated Sicily in 1943. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29, Trenton. He is survived by sons: Barry (Joan), Marshalls Crossing; Hugh (Carol), Trenton; Brian, Trenton; William “Billie”, Trenton; daughter-in-law, Lorraine MacEachern, Trenton; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was predeceased by a grandson, Harvey Allan; daughter-in-law, Eleanor; brothers: John, Joseph, Hugh, Edward, Rannie, James and William; sisters: Margaret and Gertrude. Visitation 1-2 pm Wednesday, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 73 High St., Trenton, followed by a public graveside service and Royal Canadian Legion service at 2:30 pm Wednesday, in the Abercrombie Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the IWK Health Centre Foundation or Northumberland Veteran’s Unit, Pictou. The family would like to thank the Veteran’s Unit for the care given to Neil.
