William "Bill" Skidmore
Riverton - William Arnold “Bill” Skidmore, 70, of Riverton, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the Aberdeen Hospital surrounded by family and his longtime friends. Born in New Glasgow, November 30, 1947, he was a son of the late Arnold Skidmore and Dorothy (Sweet) Skidmore. Before his retirement, Bill worked as a miner in parts of Manitoba and Ontario. Following a mining accident, he returned to Nova Scotia where he started his own business recycling tires into new products used for such things as floor mats in fishing boats and circular rings used in the nets of trawler fishermen. In his younger years, he was an avid swimmer and many women loved to be escorted around a skating rink with him. He followed many sports on TV. He had a great interest in older cars, and through the years he and his friends enjoyed some memorable road trips. Bill’s many friends valued his friendship for its honesty, commitment, and generosity. The expression, “He’d give you the shirt off his back.”, described him well. He was predeceased by his sister, Linda and her husband Dale. He is survived by siblings, Karen (Jules) Thompson, Manitoba; Richard (Ian), Waterside, Nova Scotia; Philip (Theresa), Wainwright, Alberta; Kerry (Darlene), Calgary, Alberta; Catherine (Gerrard), Prince George, British Columbia; many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Special thanks go out to Dr. Wahab, the nurses in the ICU at the Aberdeen Hospital, and his nurse practitioner, Marla MacDonald. There will be no visitation or funeral at his request. Donations in his memory may be made to the SPCA, Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame or a charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
