We’ve entered a year of incredible uncertainty.

The January 2020 deadline contained in the Boat Harbour Act is fast approaching and people throughout Pictou County and the whole province are worried about what will happen.

Family, friends, and neighbours are choosing sides and in too many cases it’s gotten ugly. Sadly, it’s ripping communities apart.

Many people have reached out to us, sharing their stories about tires being slashed and threats of violence - things we never would have thought possible in this community. Things we simply cannot accept.

This simply can’t continue.

People have the right to feel safe and secure at home, no matter how they make their living. For the safety and betterment of our community, we all need to be respectful of one another.

To some, this may be “politics” and, yes, the Liberals seem to be trying the “divide and conquer” approach, but to those impacted, this is much more than politics and they deserve better. The provincial and federal Liberals hold all the cards - and they alone will decide the future of the mill - but a Liberal tactic that pits one industry against another is the worst type of policy.

Liberal government mismanagement has driven us to this point, but, each of us can control our own actions and each of us must respect one another, and show compassion, understanding and tolerance.

We need to find a way to work together and overcome this Liberal train wreck. The only way we can face this is together, continuing the dialogue and searching for common ground.
