I am writing this letter to the editor to point out a few facts to help level the playing field for certain candidates in this upcoming election. George Canyon was born and raised here, the son of Cheryl, and the late Fred Lays of Foxbrook Road. He and his wife lived here, just across the tracks, in Hopewell for many years, raising their children.
After his career in music garnered success he and his wife moved to Alberta, as it was her dream to have a horse ranch with the Canadian Rocky Mountains as the backdrop. As many people know she worked multiple jobs over many years here in Pictou County to help support George’s dream of music.
After George was on a TV show called “Nashville Star”, which we all supported diligently and celebrated when George brought TV crews to our country during the airing of the show to shoot his “Hometown” segment, he then supported Jennifer and her dreams of owning that ranch. They relocated to Alberta and Jen was able to live her dream.
George is not an implant! He is 110 per cent Nova Scotian, Pictou County-proud and is a constant, tireless ambassador of our home, his home, to the world.
When Sean Fraser, our Liberal MP, was appointed to run in the last election for the Liberal party in Central Nova he too was living in Alberta.

He and his wife were not currently living in N.S. when he ran in the federal election of 2015 for the Liberals. Both men are born-and-raised Nova Scotians and like so many have had to move away to pursue careers.
We should be very grateful to any of our sons and daughters for stepping up to serve our country, our province and our nation no matter where they may rest their head at night. Once a Maritimer, always a Maritimer!

Lynn Connors

EDITOR'S NOTE: The print edition of this letter included a line stating that there was no nomination process for Sean Fraser when he was chosen to run for the Liberals in 2015. In fact there was a nomination meeting in which he and one other candidate competed for the nomination.
