The Kinsmen Crofters Cubs mosquito baseball team poses with the silver medals from their tournament in Cornwall, P.E.I. over the weekend. Front row from left: MacLean Tobin and Nikos Bonvie. Middle: Aaron Hubley, Peyton Clements, Tanner Steele, Cale MacLaughlin, Iain Horton and Skyler Earle. Back: Adam Fraser and Landon Sim.

The Crofters Cubs lost to Woodstock in the championship game this past weekend to take silver in the eight-team Cornwall mosquito AA tournament.

The Cubs kept it close with strong fielding before the Woodstock bats came alive late in the game. Landon Sim and Aaron Hubley singled in the championship game, but the Cubs couldn’t manufacture any runs. Adam Fraser pitched into the fifth inning against the Woodstock pitcher who didn’t allow a walk. Iain Horton, the Cubs primary catcher, caught a strong game despite the heat of the day.

New Glasgow had made their way to the final with a 10-8 victory over Stratford, P.E.I. MacLean Tobin led the way at the plate with a homerun and single, while also scoring two runs. Tanner Steele added two singles and a walk. Skyler Earle was the winning pitcher.

Nikos Bonvie led the way for the Cubs in their 15-6 win over Charlottetown, scoring three runs on two singles and a walk. Peyton Clements also scored two runs in the Charlottetown game and pitched well for Crofters.

In their second round-robin game, Cale MacLaughlin scored four runs after reaching base safely in all four at bats. The Cubs base running was too much for the Kensington team to handle as coach Bill MacKenzie had the team causing havoc on the bases.

Their opening game was an 11-7 victory over Cornwall. Sim, the Cubs leadoff hitter, led the way offensively with two runs on two hits. Cale MacLaughlin, Skyler Earle and Aaron Hubley reached base every at bat.
