The Shamrocks defeated the Pictou County Albions 5-3 in the first game and then 11-6 during the second.
Shamrocks head coach Adrian Lloy said he was pleased with how the season started.
“We’re still a fairly young team with some new pieces but it’s a very encouraging start to the season,” Lloy said.
He said his brother, Matt Lloy, who pitched the first game, was key to their success.
Tim Clayton pitched four innings in the second game, with Eric Such finishing off the remaining three innings to help with the win, Lloy said.
“It was a team effort on offence; we still have a lot to work on,” he said. “We’re a young team, had a lot of growing pains last year, but we’re just going to keep trying to improve.”
Lloy said he was happy to see so many people come out for their home opener and hopes that the people of Hantsport continue to support the team.
“Hantsport has always been a great baseball town and that’s why I’ve always loved playing here,” he said.
The Shamrocks return to action on May 28, hosting the Noel Road Blue Jays, who are three time provincial champions.
In other Nova Scotia Intermediate Baseball League action on May 21, the Noel Road Blue Jays defeated the Truro Bearcats 14-4; the Windsor Knights had a decisive victory over the Kennetcook Braves with a score of 17-5, but in the second game the Braves came back with a score of 10-9 over Windsor.
