TRURO, N.S. – Lucas Canning hammered home a one-timer with 27 seconds left in the third period as the visiting Wear Well Bombers from Pictou County edged the Truro Bearcats 3-2 on Dec. 8.
After two scoreless periods, Brandon Forbes put the Bearcats on the board at 2:05 of the third. Keifer Avery tied the game with 11:16 remaining, while Tanner Steele scored a power-play goal less than two minutes later for the visitors. Brayden Schmitt put the Bearcats on even terms with a power-play marker with 6:48 remaining.
Both goaltenders – Truro’s Lisa Mombourquette and Pictou County’s Thomas Gariepy – were sharp throughout the contest.
The Bombers, with a won-loss record of 9-10, have two home games this coming weekend at the Pictou County Wellness Centre before the Christmas break. They play Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against the East Hants-based Rangers and Sunday against The Novas (11:30 a.m.).
