Ben Callaghan was the top local finisher at the Nova Scotia junior golf provincials this past week.
On July 9-July 11 at Truro Golf Club, Callaghan had rounds of 80, 76 and 77 for a total of 233, nine shots off the pace set by eventual winner Mark Chandler. His total had him in third place in the U19 division.
Cale MacLaughlin of Abercrombie G&CC shot a 250 to finish in 29th place overall – he was 17th in the U17 division – while Barrett Baker was tied for 46th spot overall and 23rd in U17. Grady Cohen of Abercrombie was a ninth-place finisher in the U13 group.
In the Junior girls’ division, Taylor Long of New Glasgow, golfing out of Abercrombie finished tied for eighth spot, with a three-day score of 288. Her score was good enough to finish in third spot in the U17 division.
The U13 division saw Avery Cohen, also of Abercrombie, was second in U13 with a 188 total, just three shots back of the lead.
