Sidney Crosby helped kick off a big week for Nova Scotia’s Special Olympics athletes by donating $50,000 to the provincial organization.

Many of the province’s top athletes are in Antigonish for the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games that begin Aug.1.

The announcement of the donation was made on the Sidney Crosby Foundation Twitter account July 31.

Crosby, the Pittsburgh Penguins captain and Olympic hero, was honoured as Nova Scotia’s No.1 all-time athlete by the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame at the One Night Only gala last Thursday.
