Hockey is a funny game.
One night after a solid 4-1 win over the Truro Bearcats on the road, the Junior A Crushers took a beating in Berwick on Saturday, a 5-0 loss to the Valley Wildcats.
“Their players were better prepared,” said coach Doug Doull.
“Their competition level was better than ours, and that’s on me. For some reason, I can't get our guys to stiffen up both mentally and physically on the road.”
Forward Jake Martin and defenceman Marc Gagnon both suffered upper-body injuries over the weekend, and were to be evaluated Sunday to determine if they will miss significant time.
Friday in the Hubtown, Luke Melanson made 32 saves and the Crushers got goals from Alex Bonaparte, Donovan Rehill, Giancarlo Fioro and Michael Dill.
Campbell Pickard scored for Truro.
It was disappointing for the Crushers after getting the win in Truro, having a flat game against the Wildcats, who had only two wins in 10 starts going into the game.
“Same case (at the MHL Showcase two weeks ago),” Doull said.
“Shut out Edmundston, had a gritty win over Miramichi, then disappeared against Summerside (a 5-2 loss).”
The Crushers next play Thursday at home against the South Shore Lumberjacks.
