Gus Fahey was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame Saturday for his contributions as a sports builder in Pictou County and the province..
After receiving the award, he thought back on all the teams that he has worked with - and the list is a long one.
Here are his memories that he shared with The News:

Fahey started coaching Volleyball at Westville High School in 1970 and from 1972-81, the Bobcats - while an A school - built a dynasty in AA boys volleyball within the Province of Nova Scotia.
The team started out as the Westville Bees and in 1974 became the Westville Bobcats. From 1972-81, the Bobcats competed in 10 consecutive NSSAF AA Boys Volleyball Championships: winning eight titles: seven of them consecutively (1975-81).
In 1975 the Bobcats won the Nova Scotia Junior AAA Boys Volleyball championship and competed at the Canadian Nationals in Jonquiere, Que.
In 1976, the Bobcats won the Atlantic AAA Juvenile Championship by upsetting New Brunswick in the semi-finals and upsetting Newfoundland in the finals. In both matches the Bobcats trailed one game to zero before rallying to win both matches two games to one.
In 1976-77, the Bobcats went undefeated in Nova Scotia against all teams during regular season and tournament play, including AAA teams: on their way to winning the NSSAF AA High School Championship.
In 1978, the Bobcats won the Atlantic Senior Mens Open Championship in Fredericton New Brunswick; the team consisting of high school and adult players; defeating College of Cape Breton in the finals.
Finally, in 1981, the Westville Bobcats won the Nova Scotia Midget AAA boys championship at Acadia University and went on to represent Nova Scotia at the Eastern Canadian Championships in Oshawa, Ontario.
In 1981-82, Gus co-founded the Atlantic AAA Midget Hockey League while also coaching the Pictou County AAA Midget Mavericks: a team consisting of all Pictou County players from 1981-84.
The Mavs won the League title in 1981-82 and during the season participated in the Ottawa International Midget Tournament, competing in the Major Division, a division consisting of all players aged 16 while having a line-up which included five 16-year-olds and twelve 15 year olds. In 1982, the Mavs participated in the highly regarded Monctonian Midget AAA Tournament, defeating the Maritime League's top team at the time, the Cape Breton Colonels. The Mavs were not invited back for the 1983 tournament.
Gus then concentrated on coaching numerous sports and teams over the next 21 years at Westville High School. Taking over the coaching reins of the Westville Lady Mavs Basketball team during the 1995-96 season, Gus took the team to the NSSAF
Division three Provincials, losing a close final game in the Westville gymnasium to Kings -Edgehill. However, the Lady Mavs got revenge the very next season when the team won the NSSAF Divsion the Girls Basketball Championship by defeating Kings-Edghill in their home gym by a score of 71-61.
That year the team defeated Queen Elizabeth High, Sir John A. MacDonald and Horton: all AAA teams.
