Major Bantams compete in pre-season tournament

ANTIGONISH – The Pictou County Wear Well Bombers Major Bantams completed four games in a mini tournament hosted in Antigonish over the weekend.

Three teams played a series of four games each and the local squad finished with a win, a loss and two ties.

Game one was a 7-0 loss to the host Novas, with Keegan Walker and Cody MacDougall sharing the goaltending duties.

In Game 2 on Friday, the Bombers played to a 2-2 tie verses the Cape Breton Cougars. Chris Avery scored both goals, while Matt Carson picked up the only assist.  

Brayden LeBlanc and Tyler Machum shared the net-minding duties in the game.

Saturday, the Bombers scored four third-period goals to defeat Cape Breton 5-3.

Scott Long scored a hat trick and added an assist, while Connor MacLeod added a goal and two assists to lead the way. Cale MacLaughlin scored the other goal. Raymond Lowe-Chisholm picked up an assist. Cody MacDougall played goal and recorded the win.

Also Saturday, the locals surrendered a goal with only 36 seconds remaining to tie the Novas 3-3.

MacLaughlin Long and MacLeod all scored goals again in that game. Colin MacGillivary, Evan Reynolds, MacLaughlin and MacLeod all added assists. Machum played well in goal to earn the tie.

On Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Pictou County Wellness Centre, the Bombers will play an exhibition game against the Truro Bearcats. The league opens on Sept. 10, when they host the Western Hurricanes at 5:30 p.m.

The Bearcats will visit the next day for a 12:15 p.m. game.
