The Selects are travelling to Ottawa to take part in the Bell Capital Cup tournament, which is filled with teams from across Canada. Their first two games are scheduled for Wednesday against Ontario teams – the Oakville Hornets and the Nepean Wildcats.

On Wednesday, they have another game against Oakville and a match with the Stoney Creek (Ont.) Sabres.

"This is one the top teams in Nova Scotia," said Tom Hahn, a volunteer with the Atom AA Selects, speaking of the Pictou County contingent.

"You never know how you're going to do, coming from a small community (and playing other teams in the tournament), "but I think we're going to do alright."

While in Ottawa, the Selects will play at the Bell Sensplex and the Canadian Tire Centre, home of the NHL's Ottawa Senators and where the Selects will take in an NHL game between the Senators and the New Jersey Devils.

Crossovers and the tournament championship game will be held on New Year's Day.
