Michael Fong chose Cape Breton University because it was close to home and he could continue working at his parent’s restaurant while completing his degree.
After graduating, he wanted to explore where his father came from, so he sold his guitar, obtained a credit card and moved to Hong Kong. Michael worked his way from the ground up in Hong Kong’s competitive job market, and says that his CBU education prepared him well for this challenge.
“I worked hard and eventually landed a job with Blizzard Entertainment, one of the world’s premier gaming companies. The rest is history,” says Fong.
He is now the Regional Managing Director/Vice President - Asia Pacific for Blizzard Entertainment. Michael is based in Hong Kong, but spends a lot of time traveling throughout Asia, the United States and Europe.
One of his program requirements at CBU was a public speaking course, which Michael says he dreaded and tried unsuccessfully to be excused from.
“The course ended up being one of the most valuable I will ever take,” says Fong. “It was also one of my first lessons on the importance of challenging yourself and facing your fears head on.
"For me, CBU was not just an education, it was an experience.”
