YARMOUTH, N.S. — The Yarmouth Mariners are one win away from capturing the Eastlink South Division title for a second consecutive year.

The team hits the ice again on Tuesday in Bridgewater for Game 6 of their playoff final series. Looking to stand in their way will be the South Shore Lumberjacks, who will be looking to push the series to a Game 7 – just like they did in their semifinal series with the Amherst Ramblers.

The teams went into Game 5 on April 7 tied at two games a piece and in reality it could have been anyone’s game.

Yarmouth opened the scoring 4:55 into the first period on a goal by Andrew Martell (Connor Peveril, Cade Neilson). South Shore tied the game at the 14:16 off the stick of Christian Tsukamoto (Lucas Roy, Nicolas Tardif). Shots on goal (SOG) in the first frame were 14-10 in favour of the Mariners.

South Shore capitalized on a shorthanded scoring opportunity in the second period with Riley Gill scoring the unassisted goal. Martell (Brett Crossley, Logan Timmons) scored his second of the night for the Mariners with under two minutes remaining in the second to tie the game. SOG were 14-9 for the Mariners.

The third period nearly went the distance before the Landon Quinney (Brent Broaders, Matt Barron) scored the go-ahead goal at 16:17. Connor Peveril (Brett Crossley) added the insurance marker on the empty net for the 4-2 win.

The game was a clean affair by both teams with only three penalties given out during the 60 minutes of play, with none coming in the third period. South Shore received two minor penalties for hooking and high sticking while the Mariners received two minutes for hooking.

In net for the Lumberjacks Ty Grant made 32 saves on 35 shots. For the Mariners, Tyler Caseley stopped 21 of 23 shots.
