TRENTON
Pictou County’s one and only roller derby team, the Kickin’ Vixens will be hosting their only home game this year on Aug. 24 at Trenton rink.
The triple-header event will see the vixens take on the Dockyard Brawlers from Halifax and Rebel Riot from Windsor, N.S.
The Vixens have faced off against the Brawlers a number of times this year and are looking to take home a win on their home track after a close loss the last time they played each other. The Rebel Riot was the first game the Vixens played last year – and the Riot’s first game ever – in which the Vixens took the lead and are hoping to hold on to the winning status this year.
Doors open at 1:30 p.m. and the games begin at 2 p.m.
Donations of menstrual products are being collected at the door for the “Just Ask” program. There will also be information on hand to help spectators understand more about derby and game play, for those that are not familiar with how the quick-paced and hard-hitting game is played.
Highland District Derby will also be hosting an open house on Sept. 3 at the Trenton rink from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
It is for those looking to learn to skate in quad skates, looking to join the Kickin’ Vixens, the junior team or become a referee.
