NEW GLASGOW –
Upwards of 33 golf teams weathered the rain to raise money Summer Street Industries (SSI) on June 24.
And they delivered in a big way, with almost $295,000 raised by the teams.
“The support from our community is overwhelming, and it goes beyond the donation of dollars. They are true believers of the vision of Summer Street,” said Rae Gunn, vice-president of Summer Street Society and a first-time golfer at the event.
“People were thanking each other all day – donors, teams, staff, volunteers, sponsors – people were happy to be outside in the rain for hours. It was amazing.”
Presentations included recognition of individuals and teams who have been involved for all 25 annual events, as well as the top three fundraising teams and individuals.
“(It was) truly an amazing show of support from everyone involved,” said co-chairs Ray Wagg and Barry Hamilton in a joint statement.
“We are looking forward to seeing everyone again next year.”
All funds raised support programs and services offered at SSI, which creates opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities, one person at a time. For more information, go to summerstreet.ca.
